Introducing Nintendo Switch: a home console and portable handheld in one
Nintendo Switch brings true freedom to console gaming
Nintendo is once again revolutionizing home console gaming with the introduction of Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch delivers the power of a home console and the total freedom of a handheld gaming system. With Nintendo Switch, you'll be able to play rich, immersive home console games, and then bring that exact same experience on-the-go wherever and whenever you like.
Innovative design: Dock and Detachable Controllers
What makes Nintendo Switch stand apart is its unique new modular design that allows the console to effortlessly “switch” between home console and portable handheld configurations. Placing the console inside the Switch Dock, which is connected directly to your TV, will activate the home TV mode and allow you to play the latest and greatest Nintendo Switch games in the comfort of your own living room. In this configuration, you’ll also detach two Joy-Con controllers from either end of the console and insert them into the Joy-Con Grip attachment to replicate a standard controller feel. When it’s time to leave the house, simply reattach the Joy-Con controllers back onto the Nintendo Switch console and you’ve got a fully portable handheld system ready to go anywhere you want to game.
Play the way
Nintendo’s introductory video for Nintendo Switch demonstrated several other ways the console can transform to provide a range of exciting gameplay scenarios. While on the go, you can flip the kickstand at the back of the device to have it sit upright on its own. In this setup, you can remove the two Joy-Con controllers, holding one in each hand, and have total control over your games. On road trips or when hanging out with friends, compatible Nintendo Switch games offer split-screen multiplayer with each player using one Joy-Con controller. If your friends also have a Nintendo Switch console, the devices can wirelessly exchange data for thrilling multiplayer matches with up to four players, two on each Nintendo Switch console.
New games on the horizon
With nearly 50 industry-leading video game publishers already putting their support behind Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo’s own much-anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild heading to their new platform, expect a breadth of exciting new gameplay experiences when the console launches in March 2017, and the coming years.
