Captivating sound

  • Who said a TV is only good for watching movies and shows? ClearAudio+ technology and magnetic fluid speakers produce rich, clear sound from crisp highs to extended lows so you can jam out to Calvin Harris's latest track. The TV is also designed to support High-Resolution Audio so you can feel as if the artist is performing right in front of you.
  • Heavily compressed audio files, like low resolution internet videos, don't always sound so good. Luckily, with Sony's Digital Sound Enhancement Engine, lost frequency components are restored to deliver high-quality and realistic sound.
  • Watching the Manchester United game at home? Live Football Mode automatically adjusts your sound settings to create an authentic stadium experience so you feel as if you're there.
  • Get that theatre experience in the comfort of your own home with Cinematic S-Force Front Surround. This technology mimics the way your brain correlates sound sources to create proper volume, time lag, and sound wave spectrum using only the left and right speaker channels of your TV.

Excellent picture

I bought this TV during boxing day so far picture quality excellent motion flow option is very good. Google apps working just fine installed Kodi image quality and performance very good no internet connection issues. I'm not sure why someone having internet connection problems. Previously I had Samsung 55inch but returned exchanged with this Sony I'm happy with TV everything I connected works including Wi-Fi keyboard to use when I'm using Internet browser including Kodi. I tested USB interface no issues there, I also downloaded Sony app to my Android phone as a remote control no problem so far. screen mirroring option is a very good future I can view content from my smartphone on large screen as well.

turns on by itself

no matter what I do, this tv turns on by itself. I've tried everything the sony help suggested, (including a factory reset on a 3 day old tv) but when I woke up this morning, it had turned on overnight. I'll be returning it, but I am not sure how I'll get it back to the store - I had it delivered since I have no way of doing it myself. Also, I got it on sale (boxing day) and since it it sold out I'll have to pick a different tv which isn't on sale anymore, so I need to downgrade. Very disappointed.

The TV frequently drops connections . It shows a network connection but no internet. Check the forums on SONY smart TV's and it seems many people have similar issues. The latest software update has made the TV slow and glitchy. The software is terrible. I would recommend a different TV manufacturer. From the SONY website this TV only has a limited warranty available in the USA. There is no mention of software issues. Only parts.

Nice upgrade from a 32"!

Purchased and installed Dec 2016. I took the leap to upgrade my TV after 7 years. The 32" worked fine, but with pricing coming down on larger TV's, I opted for this Sony TV. I am very satisfied. The picture is amazing, even thought he capability for 4k is there, HD is still outstanding and there is no obvious lag or blur with moving objects (sports, racing, panning scenery). I really like the android features and being able to add apps from the Google Play store. The option to update when I want to instead of having it update automatically hopefully means I can keep tabs on my data usage with my cable carrier. There is no need for a sound bar that I can hear- though this is not located in a very large room where that might make a difference. I do have a home receiver that I can connect to it should I choose to have a 'better' sound quality. Overall, I'm very pleased with this TV.

Great Google TV but for Googlecaat it only Etherne

Great viewing angles. Only has Android TV 5.1.1 Plex works great but cannot seem to pass the DD5.1 or DTS to my AV receiver like it can on Netflix or the STB. Alot cheaper than the Samsung KS8000 but doesn't have pure black levels but acceptable. It will control your TV STB but why do these TV manufacturers insist on making their own TV guide? It should only send the same IR signals that the STB remote would do, WAKE UP Sony!

Great TV

Bought the XBR55X850D six months ago and still loving it. We had to bring back a similarly priced LG because the viewing angle was so limited. This Sony allows for near perfect viewing from any angle. Love having Chromecast built in. You'd have to spend a lot more to get the same results from another manufacturer.

More than expected

This TV was an impulse buy as it was on sale and fell into my budget. Little did i know that i was buying the TV that would keep me satisfied for the next decade. The Android Google play app was the icing on the cake and has truly made this TV the Entertainment MECHA i have always wanted! Picture quality is mesmerizing. I am currently re watching all my Blu Rays in 4K upscale. It is like im watching them all for the first time.

Awesome TV

I have owned several high-end Sony TVs over many, many years, but this year I decided, more out of curiosity than anything, to try another top brand that I thought had them beat based of showroom display. Once I brought that home though, despite a pretty good picture, I just couldn't find the colour depth I wanted, nor did I like its controls, so I promptly returned that model (which had been more expensive), and instead bought my Sony XBR 850 D in 55". I couldn't be more happy with this awesome TV! IT makes me wonder why I even bothered trying another brand because, quite honestly, my previous experiences with Sony have all been great too. That said, this TV is amazing even compared to it's own line. There is so much you can do to custom tailor the picture, and the TRUE high refresh rate is really noticeable - extremely smooth picture - almost 3D in effect. Still, my favourite feature of the Sonys though is the fantastic colour depth. Combining that with the ultra smooth refresh rate brings up a picture that us absolutely staggering. This TV is one that will truly WOW you every time you watch it. Additionally, sound quality is quite good, and the controls are all very user friendly. It's an easy TV to set up and customize any way you want. The ONLY criticism I can offer about this TV, and believe me it's no big deal considering the performance, is that the transformer for the power plug in is larger than any one I've ever seen - huge and hard to hide for wall mounts! But I cannot discredit this TV in any way for it's awesome picture quality. I know Sony has a rap for being a tiny bit overpriced, but, honestly, this TV can blow away most that are double its cost. I have another room that we are going to purchase another TV for and, based off how impressed I am with this one, I'm not even considering anything else outside of the XBR 850s - will probably just buy the 65" of that for the other room. The XBR 850 D series from Sony are absolutely stellar TVs!

Great TV

I recently bought this TV after first experimenting with another comparable model. I have owned several higher-end Sony TVs over the years, and, after visiting the showroom, I thought one of the other competitors would finally pull me away from that. But, after bringing that model (which was several hundred dollars more) home, I was disappointed and went back to purchase the 850 D. I had this in the home, comparing it to the other brand, side-by-side, and, in every way, this Sony was simply better. Here's the main reasons: Sony's colour depth is somewhat unique. There are many good TVs out there, but Sony seems to have consistency in colour depth. All of the TVs I compared had high refresh rates (real), so all had a good picture as far as smooth motion, but I just like Sony's overall colour display better. Additionally, the Sony seems to be a little easier to use. The other brand I tried was down right silly in being unnecessarily overcomplicated for remote control and feature use, whereas this Sony is fairly easy to navigate features with; it has good intuitive features. And, of course, the picture is fantastic on this model. This is a great TV. I'm very happy with it!

Fantastic GAMING TV

I just had to write a review for this tv a customer wrote a review saying it's the worst 4k gaming TV under game mode this is not true this tv is amazing for gaming on both console and pc and good for movies and tv shows this tv has fantastic picture quality the only thing I can really complain about is the sound the TV speakers arnt great but that's with most tvs it has everything you need for your next gen console 4k resolution HDR10 it has a wide colour gamut is a 10 bit panel great motion 120hz I can't say enough good things about this tv I would recommend calibrating it once it's calibrated it looks fantastic don't listen to the guy who posted a review saying it's the worst 4k tv for gaming has no clue what he's talking about get this tv for the price and what you get its fantastic

  • from Oakville

So satisfied

Everything we expected and more. Does an amazing job with our gaming system and our kids love all the little android games and apps they can get. The colour and the picture is amazing .

  • from Kitchener

Night viewing

This panel is great unless you watch tv in the dark with no lights or care about viewing angle. If you watch in the dark the blacks look almost grey and washed out. HDR mode with HDR content is very dark and I'm not sure how it was even certified. Do yourself a favor and buy the 930D instead.

  • from Ottawa, ON

Awesome 4K tv

Admittedly it took some time and patience to get it set up just right. But now that it's updated it works great except Netflix does not work. I've paired it with the new Samsung 4K player and the picture is outstanding and the player has Netflix which works great. Strongly recommend this tv but if you are looking to watch Netflix with it consider another source for your Netflix.

This is a fantastic tv for movies tv shows blue ray. But if you are a gamer it's not worth the buy. When you put this into game mode all the beautiful things you love about the picture on this tv turn into a washed out no colour nightmare. One of the worst 4k gaming tvs I have experienced. I took this back and bought a samsung. This is unexceptable seeing how ps4 is also a sony product. Very disappointing.

  • from Canada

X850 super happy

I did a lot of research and waited for my prized x850 for two weeks (back ordered) but it has been worth it. Works seamlessly with ps4, and easy to connect a keyboard and mouse. The Android blows me away. 100% recommended

Excellent mid-range 4k TV

Bought this tv back in June and have loved it ever since. A 4k feed on this tv is stunning. The colours are extremely rich and vibrant. It has unbelievable 4k upconvert capabilities. My only complaint is that the blacks are a little grey in the dark. However, with a little tuning you can get the picture to look great. My PS4 is wild on this thing. Happy customer.

Great TV

Purchased the 55" version after a long period of reading reviews from many sources. This is Sony's mid-range 4K TV. It has many of the features the top of the line products due except for local dimming instead it's edge lit. This does have an effect on HDR and black color quality. However, the cost involved in moving one tier up in the Sony lineup cannot justify the cost. Having spent a couple weeks with the TV now, it's well worth the price for the feature set you get. I have a couple years old LG that was the top of the line picture when released. This TV blows it away in picture quality.

  • from Toronto, ON

Love this TV!

I love the luxurious and refined design of the TV and it is worth every penny. Shows why Sony is the prestige TV brand of all time.

  • from Nepean, ON

Great TV

This TV requires some basic Picture calibration. After that any source picture will look great. PS4 games look awesome and have very short response time. Very wide viewing angle too. Tip for calibrating picture of built-in Android apps like Netflix and Youtube: do not try to use Settings from Home screen instead while watching Netflix or Youtube hit Action button that will bring up Options menu where you can change Picture for these apps. Professional reviewers were complaining about black and contrast levels but I can't see any problem with my eyes. Also another reviewer was complaining about keyboard/mouse functionality, 2.4G Keyboard/Mouse combo works great for me same as PS4 controller. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

  • from Scarborough, ON

The picture quality of this TV is good after a bit of fine tuning. I have this TV for less than 2 months, I need to pull the power plug about 5 times to reboot it to regain the remote control and have the audio back on. The audio quality is barely suitable for conversation programmings. My old Toshiba Regza is much better.

  • from Longueuil, QC

Image is crystal clear and definition amazing. Easy setup, audio is okay but I recommend surround sound system.

  • from Vancouver

Buyer beware!

This TV is not only the worst TV I've purchased, but the worst piece of technology period. To preface, I'm a huge Sony fan and have PS1-4, as well as a Sony phone and laptop. I've had this TV about 6 months. 2 months in, the touch remote stopped working altogether. Switched to the regular one. Then, Netflix started freezing randomly and then a month later finally stopped working altogether on the TV, so I had to run it through my PS4. After that, the built-in Chromecast went kaput, which was one of my main reasons for buying. Finally, tonight is the last straw. The TV is completely frozen. Both the remote and manual buttons on the TV won't turn it off. Even after unplugging and re-plugging it is still not responsive. I have never experienced such atrocious quality in a piece of electronics in my 34 years of life. Avoid this like the plague. I will carefully read every review of any Sony product I purchase in the future as a result of this horrible experience and waste of [price].

  • from Oakville, ON

Great picture quality.

Here's the thing...Sony is known for making TV's with great picture quality if you're buying one of their upper level TV's. For picture quality I give this TV 5 stars! I find that the Samsung TV's pictures look over processed and unnatural. I think the Sony has a very realistic picture. For the smart TV function I think Sony could do better and should put in more effort, but for me picture quality was more important than smart TV functions, for a smart TV it will do, I do wish that for a XBR model they should have offered a better remote and the ability to connect a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

  • from Orangeville on

Sony has done it agen desert in class

This tv is far better then lg or samsung I bought the lg 6550 the picture was so poor it was sad to say the least I took it back and then I stayed reading up on sony so I bought the x810c great tv but did not have what I wad looking for I then got the sony x850d 55 inch what a tv picture is amazing the smart android system is as fast as my computer if not faster highly recommend this tv you will not regret buying thanks sony for a great tv

  • from Saint-basile-le-grand, QC

Limited intelligence

I just discover that you cannot connect a wireless keyboard or mouse to the TV. The Android Sony app cannot use the keyboard of the tablet. So when you want to surf on the Internet with the TV (to go to Spotify or Google Play music stations) you have to enter the URL one clic at a time. Just like the old time in the 90's. Poor, really poor design for an Android TV. Buy a Samsung instead
