Bought this tv in August of last year. Used it a handfull of times at most...went to watch a movie and tv wouldn't turn on. Screen remained black and power button blinked red. Google revealed that others have had the same issues. Now have to contact Toshiba to figure out my next steps which is a lovely hassel. While tv worked, picture was great.
I've had the TV for 3 months now.I read all the reviews and ones on the internet and all I can say is every complaint but the complaint about the volume is bunk. Picture is perfect with no high-lit or dark areas, picture is also full screen when viewing HD channels. 4K when available is wow. Very easy to hook up, Chromecast is a bit of a hassle but it works from my Android phone, Windows 10 laptop using Chrome, just follow the instructions and you'll get through it. I find Chromecast gives more features than TV's with limited built in features (Smart-TV). Sound is of surprising well quality and has different themes but as others have noted that the volume control is very disappointing and is why I gave the TV a 4 star rating. The volume goes from 0 to 100 but when watching TV in the evening you can only use 0 to 10 otherwise it gets quite loud, good for watching movies but not for relaxed viewing. I would recommend this TV.
Overall, a nice "TV" -- but not suitable as a computer monitor. I used it with Ubuntu 16.04LTS and a high-end NVidia card via the HDMI port. At 2180p resolution, and a terminal window with a small font, the red on black writing shows really bad smudging on the red. Other colours show "speckling" where the colour is not solid. I tried all the settings -- contrast, brightness, HDMI mode 1 vs mode 2, MPEG compensation on/off, sharpness, etc. I spent about an hour playing with all the setting. If you're ok with it being a large 1080p display monitor, it's fantastic. But to really max out the number of characters you can display in a terminal window (I'm a die-hard embedded systems programmer), it's a fail.
Other than that, another major problem as a computer monitor is that it always powers up in annoying Google cast mode, you have to select the right input. After power-save, the graphics card loses communications with the HDMI and reverts back to 1080p mode. So all of your screens need to be resized and windows jiggled back to their proper places. Never had this problem with a monitor.
So, all in all, if you're looking for a nice TV, sure -- this is fine. But don't buy it hoping for a cheap computer monitor (contrary to other reviews).
I bought this TV 6 months ago. It's seen a lot of action since then. I bought it for the screen...nothing else. I've read complaints about the simplicity of the remote, no external buttons on the set and no smart features aside from built in Chromecast. Win/win for me since I don't want to pay for garbage features that will be out of date before he set ever leaves the store. TV is connected to an Xbox One S, quad core MAC MINI and and quad core Android box. Of course Netflix streams in 4K. Of course you have to upgrade your Netflix service to 4K.
Smart TV features are a scam. Just buy a good screen and connect ANYTHING to it -- it will be smarter than the crap apps that were already out of date when they were loaded to the set's board in China.
Good size and good price, perfect for my use. I like the integrated Chrome Cast, I was planning to buy one anyway. Just no that this is not the new 4K ChromeCast so you won't get better than 1080 from it.
I don't know what is evryone talking about but my tv does stream 4k Netflix and YouTube and all other apps fine you just have to update your tv or check if there is an update available
Not a 4 K, why pay extra ?
I have had this TV for about 3 weeks now and couldn't be happier for the price (Black Friday).
The Chromecast feature works well and I have been using it with Plex, Youtube and Netflix without issue. Despite the other review, the Chromecast does cast full screen 1080p if used properly (not mirroring the phones screen).
The only fallback I see is the the built in Chromecast is the 1080p version and not the Chromecast Ultra that is capable of 4K. To me this isn't a deal breaker since I also have a Roku 4 hooked up to this TV and it is capable of 4K HDR.
In my view buying a non-smart TV and using the Roku is a much better investment.
I bought this TV in September as it was a really good price if combined with an Xbox One S (which is what I was initially looking to buy as I really didn't need the TV at the time but the discount to buy both made sense). I finally had some time to set it up and was very disappointed. Not only is the picture mediocre but it is not a smart TV at all. I expected a Netflix app included to be able to watch 4K Netflix. There are no apps installed on the TV they expect you to use chrome cast from a phone or tablet. I also bought a wall mount bracket that included every bolt and screw you could possibly need to mount this properly however I had to improvise with several washers to made this work. I've mounted 4 others TVs in our household and never had this issue. Well beyond my time frame to return it now. I will take my lumps and sell it in the classifieds and purchase a Samsung or LG. I hope you find my review helpful.
Good deal for a product with great 4k picture!
Can't go wrong with this smart tv.
No problems at all with this TV. The wireless connectivity is great while putting out stunning 4k picture! A steal for the price! I love it.
This is a good budget 4K without too much additional features. This is not a Smart TV. Built-in Google Cast works exactly like your basic Google Cast. TV also does not have Bluetooth as mentioned on Best Buy's Overview. Product website does not mention Bluetooth so not sure why Best Buy put that there. Overall if you're looking for 4K for cheap this works well. Picture quality is good. Worth it over similarly priced 1080p TV.
Edge lighting was horrible with a giant white spot at the bottom edge of the screen which was sort of noticeable during the day time but in a dark environment it was extremely distracting. Like the other reviewer said gremlins with flashlights inside the tv..
The remote control was beyond basic and could easily be confused with a stand fan remote control.
Otherwise picture and sound quality were good and build quality was decent with sturdy metal feet which are not too wide apart so can fit on a smaller stand.
I had bought it mostly for the built in chromecast which worked great but I could not stand the uneven edge lighting. I returned it and bought a non-4K Vizio D50-D1 and a separate chromecast. Although the build and sound quality for the vizio is slightly lower than the toshiba I am happy with it.
Perfect picture, awesome as a big computer monitor at 4k resolution. Very bright with vivid colours and quite fast at 6ms, HDMI v2.0 and RGB panel.
amazing picture. ideal for gaming
Very good TV, almost perfect. It's more on just a 4K TV with google cast than a smart TV. If you're looking for a 4K TV without smart features, then this is the one for you.
Picture is very clear and colour is great. Had to phone for assistance wasn't sure how to find channel 3. Gentleman from geek squad on the phone said he had to read the manual and told me to check cable connection to digital cable box and said to let it scan for channels 100%. I did exactly what he told me and television works perfectly. I don't see any problems.
Don't listen to that other reviewer. I picked this up on the Black Friday sale and I couldn't be happier. The quality is excellent!
Such a sick deal on a sweet TV
Good package for the pricre, can't really ask for much more, the Google cast is great and it does not depend on your phone screen quality because the TV itself is connected to the internet and your phone is only there to say what video to read, quality is great with casting depending on the video quality overall, otherwise great TV not perfect the reflection in the screen is annoying but manageable
This TV should not be marketed as a true smart TV. The cast function is really clunky, and it's basically a black screen with your phone screen in the middle. When you access Netflix, etc, despite the TV being 4K, it uses your mobile device, so it's completely dependent on how good of a screen your mobile device has. My Xperia screen, while amazing on a small mobile device, looked pretty bad stretched out on a screen. Additionally, because it's cast from your phone, much of the TV screen isn't utilized for various apps and there are big black spaces.
I'd recommend something else if you are looking for a smart TV.
